deb formo Scholarship Fund
Occasionally associations name awards in honor of valued members. Attaching a person’s name to an award serves two purposes: (1) it recognizes the person’s professional talent as well as his/her accomplishments within the association, and (2) it gives the member a sort of immortality by keeping his/her name on the lips of new members who were never fortunate enough to know the person. Establishing an annual scholarship in Deb Formo’s honor was not only a fitting memorial but also helped ease ANEW-WI’s members sorrow at her untimely death.
Deb served her profession and ANEW-WI with energy, enthusiasm, competence and commitment. Her entire career was spent in the Human Service profession. She became known as a valued resource on policy and procedure in all state and federal programs in the state of Wisconsin. Deb served on the ANEW-WI board in the infancy of the state chapter and devoted herself wholeheartedly to making the organization a valuable resource to Economic Support Specialists throughout Wisconsin. She gravitated to adult education and became an excellent trainer in all of the Economic Support (ES) programs.
While she was very serious about her work within the association, her marvelous sense of humor brightened many meetings. She had an openly gregarious spirit and never hesitated to speak up on an issue. She believed passionately in ANEW-WI and in NEW PATHS throughout her life and worked intensely to support the mission and ideals of both organizations. Deb attended many state and national conferences, both as an attendee and as a presenter, recognizing the need for a strong organization representing the professionalism of Eligibility Workers.
In short, the Deb Formo Scholarship Fund allows those conference attendees who have paid their own conference registration the ability to submit their name into a drawing to get reimbursed. The amount of reimbursement varies from year to year based on funding. Those expecting to be reimbursed by their agency, employment, or chapter are not eligible.
